WELCOME

Hello and welcome to my blog.

I've been an ESL teacher for three years now and doesn't the time fly! This year I have decided to keep a blog starting from now (the beginning) of the holidays until the end of the next school year. (2008/09)

This will be my second year teaching in a primary school in Hungary, previously I was teaching at a bi-lingual school which was much easier, now I have more of a challenge because the school has a 70% rate of Roma (Gypsy) students, most of whom come from under-privileged families and get no support with learning at home. More about them later.

You are probably asking the question that EVERYBODY asks me..."why did you change schools?", well I was fed up of commuting for more than an hour each day, that's it This job presented itself to me and I took it.

It's not all bad at all, I enjoy the challenge and my colleagues are wonderful, but only 1-2 speak English so this past year has been a very, very intensive Hungarian lesson for me!

I hope you will will follow my story and learn form my advice and from my mistakes!

Also feel fee to post comments.

Hi T

I enjoyed teaching ESL in Turkey and China, and now I am teaching ESL at a university in England. After teaching primary school children for years in Australia I am enjoying the experience of teaching ESL to adults. In China I did have some fun teaching a few lessons to a kindergarten, but it always made me sleepless the night before, and it's an experience I'd like to remember and laugh about it but not repeat.

So good luck with your teaching kids - I will look in occasionally to see how you are doing.

Hello, I need your advice!

Ive been identified as beginner/lower elementary and offered a course of 50 hours (25 sessions per 2 hours 3 times a week) with qualified ESL teacher. I am curios what do you think to which level I can be possibly brought after 50 hours?

thank you,
